Upper floor systemsSpecialist systems built for timber joist floors.
Upper floor underfloor heating requires a different approach to ground floor installation. With a suspended timber joist floor in place, the system needs to work with the existing structure, not against it, and do so without adding height to the finished floor.
Both systems we offer for upper floors are designed specifically for this scenario. They work within or replace the existing joist floor construction, delivering efficient, comfortable heat to first and second floor rooms with no increase to the finished floor height.
Joist PlateThe most widely used upper floor UFH solution.
The Joist Plate system is the standard choice for adding underfloor heating to first and second floor rooms, in both new build and existing properties.
How it works: Aluminium heat spreader plates clip directly onto the joists, below the chipboard subfloor. UFH pipe is laid into the plates, and insulation is placed between the joists beneath the system to prevent downward heat loss and maximise upward output. The system sits entirely within the existing joist void, with no increase whatsoever to the finished floor height above.
Key features:
Installation note: In an existing property, access is required to the underside of the floor, either from a basement or accessible void below, or from above by temporarily lifting the floorboards. We’ll assess your property and advise on the most appropriate approach.

Best for: First and second floor rooms in new build and existing properties with timber suspended joist floors. Also suitable for ground floor rooms with suspended timber construction.

Best for: New build projects where the upper floor subfloor is being specified from scratch, or renovation projects where existing floorboarding is being replaced. Particularly well suited to heat pump installations.
JoistDeck®The factory-ready replacement for a standard chipboard subfloor.
JoistDeck® takes a different approach. Rather than fitting heat spreader plates beneath an existing floor, it replaces your standard chipboard or plywood subfloor entirely, making it particularly efficient for new build projects where the subfloor hasn’t yet been laid.
How it works: JoistDeck® is a foil-faced chipboard panel, pre-grooved to accept 16mm UFH pipe at 150mm centres. It is laid directly on top of the joists, exactly as a standard subfloor would be, but with the heating system already integrated. No additional height, no secondary components.
