Underfloor Heating & Heat PumpsIf you’re considering a heat pump, underfloor heating isn’t just compatible, it’s the ideal system to pair with it. Together, they form one of the most efficient, low-carbon home heating solutions available today.

How It Works

Why They Work So Well Together

Heat pumps are at their most efficient when producing low-temperature heat, typically between 35-50°C. Traditional radiators, designed to run at 70-80°C, are poorly matched to this and often struggle to heat rooms effectively when connected to a heat pump.
Underfloor heating, by contrast, is designed to operate at exactly those lower temperatures. With a larger surface area delivering heat gently and evenly across the entire floor, UFH produces comfortable warmth without requiring high water temperatures. The result: your heat pump runs at maximum efficiency, your energy bills stay lower, and your home remains consistently warm.

The Benefits

Lower Running Costs

A heat pump paired with underfloor heating can significantly reduce energy bills compared to a gas boiler and radiator system.

Reduced Carbon Footprint

Heat pumps produce no direct carbon emissions and extract ambient heat from the air or ground rather than burning fossil fuels.

Future-Proof Your Home

With the UK’s move away from gas boilers well underway, investing in heat pump and UFH technology now positions your home ahead of the curve – and is increasingly attractive to future buyers.

Silent & Unobtrusive

No boiler noise, no radiator banging, no visible heating units. Just a quietly, efficiently heated home.

Which Heat Pump Works With UFH?

Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) Extract heat from outdoor air, even at temperatures well below freezing. Easier and less disruptive to install than ground source, and increasingly the most popular renewable heating option for UK homes. A well-designed UFH system paired with an ASHP is one of the most accessible low-carbon heating solutions available.
Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP) Extract heat from the ground via buried pipework. Highly efficient and consistent throughout the year, though they require sufficient outdoor space for the ground array. When paired with UFH, a GSHP system can achieve some of the lowest running costs of any home heating solution.

Getting the Design Right

For a heat pump and UFH combination to perform at its best, the underfloor heating system must be correctly specified from the outset. Pipe spacing, flow temperatures and zone configuration all need to be carefully calculated based on your heat source and your property’s specific heat loss characteristics.
At WarmTraceUFH, our fully indemnified design service is produced in accordance with BS EN 1264. We factor in your heat source from the very beginning, ensuring your UFH system is optimised for the heat pump you have, or are planning to install.
