Underfloor Heating in Your Existing HomeMore Achievable Than You Think.
Retrofitting underfloor heating is one of the questions we’re asked most often, and one of the most commonly misunderstood. In the vast majority of cases, it can be done. You simply need the right system and a specialist who knows how to specify it correctly.
The Main Challenge and How We Solve It
The primary constraint with retrofit UFH is floor height. In an existing property, building the floor up significantly can affect door clearances, skirting boards, thresholds and – in older buildings – ceiling heights. This rules out traditional screed systems for most renovation projects.
Modern low-profile UFH systems are designed precisely for this scenario. Our retrofit range includes systems with build-up heights starting at under 20mm, making them suitable for the great majority of existing properties – including period buildings and older homes with limited floor depth.
The key is matching the right system to your specific floor construction and project requirements. That’s exactly what we do.
Popular Renovation Scenarios
Kitchen renovation
One of the most common retrofit UFH projects. Kitchens typically have tiled or stone floors – ideal for underfloor heating – and the disruption of a kitchen refit makes it the natural moment to install.
Bathroom or wet room
A low-profile system beneath tiled flooring in a bathroom or en suite is one of the most practical and popular UFH applications.
Conservatory or extension
Adding UFH to a new extension is particularly straightforward – the floor is open during construction, making installation almost as clean as a new build project.
Whole-house renovation
If you’re undertaking a full renovation, this is your best opportunity to install UFH throughout the ground floor – and potentially upper floors – before new finishes go in.
