The screed layer in an underfloor heating installation does far more than simply cover the pipes. It acts as the thermal mass of the system, absorbing heat from the pipework and radiating it evenly upward into the room above. Get the screed wrong and even a perfectly designed UFH system will underperform.
Screed depth, mix consistency, curing conditions and the quality of the pour all directly affect how efficiently your underfloor heating operates. What We Offer
Liquid (Flowing) Screed
Also known as anhydrite or self-levelling screed, liquid screed is pumped and poured directly over the underfloor heating pipework, flowing around the pipes and filling any voids completely. It self-levels to a smooth, accurate finish and is the preferred choice for most UFH installations due to its superior thermal contact with the pipework and faster installation speed over large areas.

Sand-Cement Screed
The traditional alternative to liquid screed, sand-cement is mixed on site and laid by hand. It remains the appropriate choice for smaller areas, areas requiring a thicker build-up, or situations where liquid screed is impractical. We advise on the most appropriate screed type for your project as part of the overall system design.
Screed Depth and UFH
For underfloor heating applications, screed depth is not arbitrary, it directly affects both the performance of the system and the time required before floor coverings can be laid.

The Drying and Commissioning Process
Screed must be allowed to dry and cure fully before floor coverings are laid, and before the underfloor heating system is commissioned at full temperature for the first time. Rushing this process can cause the screed to crack and may affect component warranties.
